The Application Process






How do I apply?

For a graduate catalogue and application form, contact Kennesaw State University's Office of Graduate Admissions at 770-420-4377. An application for admission is also available online.

Is the application process the same for both the Master of Arts degree and the Graduate Certificate?

Applicants to either the Master of Arts in Professional Writing program or one of the Graduate Certificate programs must complete an application with Graduate Admissions http://www.kennesaw.edu/graduate/admissions/forms.shtml .

To apply to the MAPW Program, follow the procedures outlined at MAPW Admissions Criteria.

To apply to one of the Graduate Certificate Programs, follow the procedures outlined at Graduate Certificate Admissions Criteria.

When is the application deadline?

Applications to the Master of Arts in Professional Writing program and Graduate Certificate programs are received once a year. All application materials must be received by this date.
The admission date each year is  February 1st. Applications for new students for the Master's and Certificate program are accepted once each year for fall semester.l

When can I start the program?

New students are admitted each year for enrollment during the Fall semester.

What are the minimum academic requirements to apply?

Refer to either MAPW Admissions Criteria or Graduate Certificate Admissions Criteria for minimum academic requirements.

What are the application requirements for Internationl students?

International applicants must have their foreign credentials evaluated by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. Course-by-course evaluations, equivalence to an accredited U.S. degree or number of years toward completion, and grade point average equivalents are required. International students from countries where English is not the primary language must submit:

  1. A TOEFL score of 550 (or 213 if using computer-based total) or above to be considered for admission
  2. Affidavit of support from the sponsor (F-1 Visa students only)
  3. Certified financial letter from sponsor's bank showing that funds are available for one year of study (F-1 Visa Students only)
  4. Valid passport with an I-94 to be submitted upon arrival at Kennesaw State University
  5. Proof of immigration status to be submitted upon arrival at Kennesaw State University
International Student Requirements in addition to the above requirements should be mailed to the Office of Graduate Admissions.

What is the minimum requirement for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)?

A minimum verbal score of 520 and a minimum 4.5 on the analytic writing on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for admission to the Master of Arts in Professional Writing program. Plan accordingly for the GRE General Test ... it takes 10 business days for our office to receive the official results. There is no GRE requirement for applicants to the Graduate Certificate programs.

Where do I take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)?

There are four Prometric Test Centers offering the GRE test in the metro-Atlanta area:

    The GRE website is www.gre.org

It takes 10 business days for KSU to receive GRE scores... plan accordingly and meet the deadline February 1st.

Can I submit GRE scores that are more than five years old?

No. The GRE must have been taken within five years prior to applying to the MAPW program.

If I am applying to a Graduate Certificate program, do I need to submit GRE scores?

No. There is no GRE requirement for applicants to the Graduate Certificate programs.

If I already have a graduate degree, do I still need to submit GRE scores?

No. The GRE requirement is waived for applicants who have earned an advanced degree.

Are letters of recommendation required?

Letters of recommendation are not required, although we gladly accept those we receive.

Is there an application fee?

Yes. All applications received must be accompanied by a nonrefundable $60.00 application processing fee.

How much are tuition and fees?

Tuition is based on the number of credit hours enrolled.
