Professional Writing Certificate Programs



Admissions Criteria

  1. A bachelor's or graduate degree from an institution accredited in a manner accepted by Kennesaw State University. An official transcript sent directly from the institution to the Office of Graduate Admissions from each institution attended. Proof of baccalaureate degree should be on one transcript.

  2. A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  3. A completed KSU application form indicating the Graduate Certificate to which you are applying: Creative Writing Certificate or International Audiences Certificate. An application for admission is available at http://www.kennesaw.edu/graduate/admissions/forms.shtml .

  4. A nonrefundable $60.00 application processing fee.

  5. An application letter of intent that includes what the student wishes to achieve from the program and any experience the student already has in writing (e.g. workshops or literature classes, reading and writing habits, membership in writers' organizations, awards, and publications). Creative Writing Certificate applicants should also include the genre of concentration.

  6. Creative Writing Certificate applicants should include samples in the genre of concentration.
    Prose Fiction and Creative Nonfiction: 25 double-spaced pages (excerpts are acceptable)
    Poetry: 10 poems or 10 pages
    Playwriting and Screenplay Writing: 25 pages of script
    International Audiences Certificate applicants should include a writing sample not to exceed 25 double-spaced pages.

  7. The KSU Health Clinic will contact newly admitted and enrolled students regarding immunizations for measles, mumps and rubella. The KSU Health Clinic website is http://www.kennesaw.edu/col_hhs/hc/.
  8. Optional: A letter of reference from someone who can evaluate the applicant's writing skills and academic work.


Application Deadline

Applications to the Graduate Certificate program are received once a year, on Febraury 1st for fall admission.
