Hired for Spring Semester as Adjunct Instructor in the English Department at North Georgia College and State University teaching two sections of English 1101. Appointed Graduate Research Assistant in the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Georgia State U. Will be writing the help files and performing usability testing on in-house web-based software application that provides an online assessment tool for assessment and feedback of writing assignments by professors, WAC Writing Consultants, and peer groups. The application also facilitates documentation of the assessments for use by the WAC as well as for accreditation purposes.

Sean Brumfield (Spring 1997) has been named the new executive director of the Atlanta Center for Civic Engagement and Service Learning at Georgia Perimeter College. Brumfield received his doctorate in higher education from the University of Georgia. Brumfield comes to GPC from Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta. From 2006 to 2009, he served as faculty director of service learning, and chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences Department, as well as instructor of English and Humanities. Brumfield also was the lead English instructor from 2002 to 2006 at the college and was the coordinator of developmental studies and the learning center. Prior to his job at Chattahoochee Tech, he was an adjunct instructor at Kennesaw State University.
Chris Burdett (Spring 2003)
Recently completed his MFA in Creative Writing at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville; he was a Teaching Fellow at GCSU while in the program and is now teaching there as an adjunct. Her poem "Making Things Plain Again" appeared in the October 2005 issue of The Healing Muse and "Answer to a Flower's Existential Dilemma" appeared in the November 2005 issue of Red River Review. The Winter 2005 issue of The Kennesaw Review included her poem "Female Epidemic," and the Spring 2006 issue of Atlanta Review included "The Yankee Speaks of Kennesaw." "Brick's Aside to a Moviegoer, 1958" and "Blooming" was included in the March 2006 issue of Gin Bender and "If Not an Apple" will appear in the June 2006 issue of Rock and Sling.
Marc Fitten (Summer 2005)
He edits the Chattahooche Review. In a "major" new deal, Bloomsbury US and UK have acquired world English rights in Valeria's Last Stand, his first novel. The book, which is due to be published spring '09, is a modern day fable about a spinster living in a small town in Hungary, where the author was based in the 1990s.

Wrote several pieces for publication in Quilt Magazine this past spring and summer, including "Bold Scraps of Southern Life," about the quilters of Gee's Bend, Alabama (June/July 2006). She also had three short pieces published in I Do For Brides (Summer/Fall 2006). In July 2006, she accepted a position as Grants Manager with Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. She is responsible for researching, writing and tracking proposals for funding the organization's numerous units and projects; she also serves as staff writer on special assignments.

The award included a cash prize.

His article "Heaven's Landing" appeared in the August/September 2005 issue of The AutoPilot magazine (Mid-Atlantic Edition). The magazine of the KSU College of the Arts published his article, "A Woman with Vision: Roberta Griffin," in the summer of 2005, and R.E. Magazine published his article, "Getting to the Bottom Line," in April 2006. Lawrence has also published several anthologies. His poems "Keelo" and "My Woods" and his nonfiction story "Prince of Cheap" appeared in Lessons Learned, Volume II in the summer of 2005. In October 2006, he had his fiction story "The Package" and his nonfiction story "The Bargain King" published in the North Point of View:Tales of Alpharetta and Beyond.

Feature story on Ms. Sandy Riley, Angel Flight Southeast volunteer pilot, Angel Flight board member, and world traveling missionary, titled "A Very Special Angel," was published by the Lake and Sumter Style Magazine (Florida) in its July 2006 edition. He also had a feature story on the Town & Country Ford Parts Department,Alabama's largest ford parts supplier, published by The Southern Automotive Journal in its "Supplier Spotlight" section (June 2006 Edition), and a feature story on Gwinnett Place Honda's Parts Department published by The Southern Automotive Journal in its "Supplier Spotlight" section (October 2006 Edition). His novel Days of the Endless Corvette won the 2008 Georgia Author of the Year Award for First Novel.
Emmanuel Martin (Summer 1998)
His first book is set to be published by Carroll and Graf, an imprint of Avalon Books. The book, currently titled Endless Corvette is a humorous, southern tall tale about love and car repair set in central Georgia in the '70s. It is scheduled for release, June 2007.
Nancy McDaniel (Spring 2004)
Supervisor of the Writing and Reading Centers at Georgia Perimeter College on the Dunwoody campus and serves as an adjunct instructor and the faculty advisor to the Writers' Circle. Nancy had "When Mommy Goes to Heaven" accepted by Gilgal Publications to be included in The Gilgal Meditations Series, a collection of articles on coping with different forms of grief. The book is scheduled to be released Spring 2006.

Christy Smith (Spring 2005)
Won third place in the fiction category in the Porter Fleming Writing Competition for her short story "There Are Places I'll Remember." She read an excerpt from the story at the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival on September 18, 2005. Her non-fiction work, "Women of Faith: A Study of American Muslim Women in Gwinnett County, Georgia," was a finalist in the Emerging Writers Contest sponsored by the Southern Women's Writers Conference at Berry College. Christy is a staff reporter for the Gwinnett Daily Post newspaper in Lawrenceville. She has several freelance articles published in AutoPilot Magazine, Cobb Living, Coosa Valley Living and North Fulton Living Magazines. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Georgia Perimeter College. Fall 2006 she taught remedial writing for the Regents' Essay Exam.

Has poems appearing or forthcoming in issues of Atlanta Review, Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review, Wisteria, and Modern English Tanka. In May she gave a poetry reading and workshop at the Three Rivers Regional Library on the GA coast (Brunswick/Saint Simmons Island), and in June she gave a reading for the Kennesaw Mountain Writing Project. This year she launched La Vita Poetica Press, a small press dedicated to the production of limited edition, handcrafted chapbooks. She is a second-year Ph.D. student in English at Georgia State University. Cheryl Stiles' "Different Planes of Sensuous Form," an essay and annotated bibliography about Elizabeth Barrett Browning wil appear in the fall 2007 issue of Victorian Periodicals Review published by the University of Toronto Press. She has poems forthcoming in the journal The Healing Muse and in String Theory, a booklength anthology of creative works inspired by contemporary physics.

Sandra Wright Taylor (Fall 2005)
Has been working as a contributing editor to the Chattahoochee Review since graduation. She has also served as the Townsend Prize for Fiction award luncheon coordinator, a biennial award for the best fiction writer in Georgia, which took place at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Atlanta in April 2006. Taylor has co-authored a book (working title, Homeward Bound) that is a history of public government policy toward veterans since the Revolutionary War. It is to be published by Greenwood Publishers and will be placed in libraries across the United States. Additionally, Taylor has had various articles published in MD News, a trade magazine marketed to physicians.
